India Provides Vegetables Seed to Nepal

Indian Embassy handed over 800 Kg of vegetable seeds of Tomato, Radish and Onion to D. D. Baral, Member-Secretary, National Seeds Board and the chief of the Seeds Quality Control Centre, Nepal government as part of post-earthquake relief assistance to Nepal in presence of many officials of the Ministry of Agricultural Development.  The total cost of these seeds is about INRs.1,62,92,500.00

According to a press release issued by Indian Embassy, the seeds are being supplied on the request of the Government of Nepal and are intended to provide relief and support to the Nepalese farming community that suffered destruction of its crops and livestock due to the devastating earthquake and subsequent landslides in different regions of Nepal. The agriculture is one of the focus areas of cooperation between India and Nepal.

The cooperation in the agriculture sector between two countries includes an ongoing project for installation of 2700 shallow tube wells in various districts in the Terai region for improving irrigation infrastructure. In addition, many agriculture researchers and scientists receive training in different institutes of India every year.
