Independent Power Producers (IPPs) have claimed that they can help bring down the load shedding to zero within five years if the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) revises its Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) rate to Rs 5.99 per unit. The pressure group formed by the IPPs has claimed that they are in a position to generate 1580 MW of power through 113 projects in five years if the NEA increases the rate of power purchase. According to Bijayaman Sherchan, coordinator of the group, the IPPs are unable to invest in power at present PPA rate of Rs 4.44 per unit due to increasing bank interest rates, and rise in prices of construction materials.
