The Constitutional Council has recommended former Home secretary Umesh Mainali as Chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC).

A meeting of the council held at the Prime Minister’s Office  this evening recommended Mainali and other six office-bearers for the PSC.

The meeting, however, failed to name officials for Election Commission and Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

According to Leela Mani Poudel, Chief Secretary, the other names who were recommended as PSC members are Brinda Hada, Dr Govinda Kushum, Sree Purush Dhakal, Ashok Kumar Jha, Bramha Dev Raya and Krishna Chandra Jha.

The recommendation was delayed as the opposition and ruling parties couldn’t forge consensus over the names. The members of the council were sharply divided over recommendations for the chairman and members at the PSC.
