At a time when Nepalese communist parties are opposing the agreement between India and China to open Lipulek, a disputed border side between Nepal and India, a Chinese delegation led by Assistant Minister for International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Dou Enyong paid a visit, meeting the leaders of various political parties, here.

During his meeting with the leaders, Chinese leader Dou Enyong convinced Nepalese leaders that the recent China-India agreement has nothing to do with the sovereignty of Nepal but it is purely for trade purposes.

Chinese leader Dou Enyong reportedly told this while meeting the leader of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidya at his office. "The Chinese leader assured us that China respects the sovereignty and integrity of Nepal. The agreement is nothing but a trade deal,” said CP Gajurel.

"No matter what the change in circumstances, China’s love and respect to Nepal continues as Nepal is a reliable friend of China,” he reportedly told CPN-Maoist leader Vaidya, who is launching an agitation against the China-India Trade agreement.

“I will convey your serious concern about Lipulek to our high officials,” said the Chinese leader.

The Chinese leader also called on UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the latter's residence. During the meeting, Chinese leader Duo Enyong reportedly told UCPN Maoist leader Dahal that China has nothing to do with the federal structure of Nepal as it is the people of Nepal to decide what kind of political system they want in their country.

“China does not want to interfere with the constitution writing process of Nepal. China wants to see the promulgation of new constitution and political stability in Nepal,” said Chinese leader Duo Enyong.

Dou said that China was willing to support the constitution drafting process as per Nepal's wishes. In the meeting, discussions were also held about ways to expand the cordial relations between the two parties, leader Mahara added. 

Similarly, the Chinese visiting team called on CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya at his party headquarters, Buddhanagar.

On the occasion, they held discussions on contemporary political affairs as well as bilateral relations between the two parties.

During the meeting, Baidya urged the Chinese team to correct the recent agreement made by China and India to open a bilateral trade point at Lipulek—a Nepali territory, said party vice-chair CP Gajurel.

The CPN–Maoist party urged the Chinese side to continue its positive role in respecting Nepal's sovereignty, integrity and independence.

Along with two Maoist leaders, Chinese leader Duo Enyong also met the leader of CPN-UML K.P. Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress leader and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.

Although this is a regular visit of Chinese communist leaders, it assumes significance at a time when Nepal is at a critical process of promulgation of new constitution.
