India provides Assistance to School Building in Kanchanpur

Rajesh Poudel, LDO, Kanchanpur and Surendra Ojha, Principal, Pashupati Shiksha Mandir and Gyanveer Singh, Second Secretary in the Embassy of India, Kathmandu signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) for construction of triple storey school building and supply of furniture and computers for Pashupati Shiksha Mandir in Kanchanpur district with the total financial assistance of NRs. 30 million by India under its Small Development Program Scheme as part of India–Nepal Economic Cooperation Program

According to a press release of Indian Embassy, the School was established in 2008 as a pre-primary school and subsequently upgraded to primary level in 2012. It is located at Belauri Municipality, Ward No. 12, and Ratanpur in Kanchanpur district. The existing infrastructure of the school building is in dilapidated condition and is inadequate to comfortably accommodate all the students. At present, there are approx 250 in the school who would benefit from the construction of the new school building. The new school building would provide much needed classroom space and create an improved environment for learning and contribute to the development of education in the district.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding, the District Development Committee, Kanchanpur would prepare a work schedule, invite tenders for the construction of the project in 15 months and get the project completed in time. A monitoring committee comprising School Management Committee, District Development Committee and Education Officer of Kanchanpur district would monitor the project and regularly submit the progress report to the Embassy of India, Kathmandu which shall release the funds accordingly. Hitherto, a total of 06 projects have been completed and 04 other projects in Kanchanpur district are under implementation with the Government of India’s financial assistance worth NRs 210 million. Additionally, the Government of India has, in the past, provided 09 ambulances, recognizing the need of the people of the district.
