Indian Embassy Celebrates 70th Independence Day

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae presented over forty ambulances and eight buses to various hospitals, non-profit charitable organizations and educational institutions of different districts to strengthen education and health services in Nepal.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae presented over forty ambulances and eight buses to various hospitals, non-profit charitable organizations and educational institutions of different districts to strengthen education and health services in Nepal.

These ambulances and buses were presented on the occasion of 70th Independence Day of India.

In a reaffirmation on the commitment of the Government of India’s support to Nepal in its journey towards development, Ambassador Rae presented thirty six ambulances and six buses in the function at Kathmandu and four other ambulances and two buses were gifted by the Consulate General of India, Birgunj

Indian Embassy in Kathmandu organized a public program to celebrate the 70th Independence Day of India in the premises of the Embassy of India, Kathmandu on August 15, 2016.  On this occasion, the Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae hoisted the national flag and read out the message of the President of India.  According to a press release issued by Indian Embassy, the President in his message stressed on India’s support for peace and stability in its neighborhood.

At the event, Ambassador Rae distributed cheques worth Nepalese Rs. four crores and blankets to fourteen Bhu-Pus, widows, next of kins and dependents of deceased soldiers of Indian Armed Forces.  Books were also donated to fifty nine libraries, educational and training institutions located in different regions of Nepal, including in remote districts.

At the function, a short film was shown highlighting seventy schemes and programs launched by the Government of India, including the public service scheme of Ministry of External Affairs-MADAD.  The program also saw honoring of twelve artists (five Indian and seven Nepalese) who concluded a two-day “Ramayan Circuit Art Workshop” on 12th and 13th August, 2016 in Janakpur.

Since 1994, the Government of India has gifted 582 ambulances to various organizations across 73 districts in Nepal.  This has helped in bringing healthcare services to the doorstep of thousands of people who do not have access to healthcare services. India has also so far gifted 114 buses to various educational and welfare institutions across 25 districts in Nepal, making access to education easier for thousands of students.

 The 70th Independence Day function was attended by Embassy officials, their families, members of the Indian community and other guests. The ceremony concluded with a scintillating cultural program.
