Indian Embassy and B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation organized today a talk on Yoga by Dr Bharat Thakur in the run up to the celebration of the First International Yoga Day on June 21, 2015 under 25th edition of Voices. Dr. Bharat Thakur presented a talk on Yoga for Physical, Mental and Spiritual Being.

Disciple of Guru Sukhdev Brahmachari, Dr. Thakur is well-learned in different forms of Yoga such as Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Karma Yoga and Kundalini Yoga. The founder of artistic Yoga, Dr Thakur has his yoga centres in several cities.

During his one hour talk, Dr. Thakur shared how Yoga is one of the most approachable sciences, which has nothing to do with beliefs or religious differences.

“Yoga is the most approachable science, by which we can coordinate our brain’s modification,” he shared. He explained on Ashtanga Yoga – the eightfold paths of Yoga, namely Yama, Niyama, Asana (posture), Pranayama (breathing), Pratihara (withdrawal of senses), Dharana (contemplation), Dhyana (meditation) and Samadhi (oneness).

Furthermore, he elaborated on each of the aforementioned folds and also demonstrated the basics for the audience to relate to them.

“Yoga is a way of life that does no harm to anyone. Take for example, we breathe every second, every day. If only, we concentrate on the right way of breathing, that in itself will prove out to be one of the most vital Pranayams you will be doing. You can practice Yoga anywhere provided you are not over doing it,” he added.

Dr. Thakur later interacted with the audience and provided them with some of the easy tips of Yoga to overcome common health issues of migraine, acidity, gastritis and hyper tensions.

Abhay Kumar, Secretary of B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation presented a token of appreciation to Dr Thakur and shared that Embassy of India and B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation will organize many more programs in near future to celebrate the First International Yoga Day.
