A team of experts arrived from India with equipment has started removing the Turkish Airlines plane that is stuck close to the runway at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal announced that TIA International Terminal remain closes till Friday morning.

The airbus on Istanbul-Kathmandu flight crash-landed after it missed the runway while landing on Wednesday morning. All the international flights to and from Kathmandu remain halted as the runway remains blocked by the plane.

The team of aeronautical engineers and experts of the Indian Army´s Air Force arrived this afternoon in Kathmandu along with the equipments.

As many as 70 international flights have been disrupted since 8.0 am on Wednesday for lack of the equipment for removing the grounded aircraft reports RSS.

After being unable to remove the plane with the equipment it had, the TIA management had borrowed machinery and equipment from the Department of Roads to move the 150-tonne plane, but were unable to move it, as they are designed to handle loads up to 70 tonnes only.

Turkish Airlines’ flight TK726 arriving from Istanbul, Turkey, had crash-landed at Tribhuvan International Airport yesterday morning, averting a major accident.

The plane — Airbus A330 that was carrying 224 passengers and 11 crew members — had skidded off the main runway and nose-dived in the grassland between the taxiway and runway, which forced the government to cancel all international flights for the entire day.
