Issue Name : Vol.10,No 15, March 24,2017 (Chaitra 11,2073)

Japanese government has extended financial assistance of US Dollars 78,268, equivalent to approximately Nepalese Rupees 8,335,000 to Ganesh Man Singh Foundation under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme of the Government of Japan in Japan’s Fiscal Year 2016. Ganesh Man Singh Foundation, a Nepali NGO in Kathmandu, will implement the Project for the Construction of a Community Center in Baneshwor, Kathmandu.

“A Grant Contract relating to this project is scheduled to be signed and exchanged at the Embassy of Japan to Nepal on 23rd March, 2017, between Mr. Masashi Ogawa, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, and Mr. Prakash Man Singh, President of Ganesh Man Singh Foundation,” said a press release issued by Embassy of Japan.

This grant assistance will be used to build a community center in the Baneshwor area of Kathmandu. Baneshwor is a newly developed area where many ethnic groups, castes, and migrants from outside the Kathmandu Valley reside. The community is still underdeveloped and faces many difficulties, particularly unemployment for youth and women, amidst other difficult living situations.

The Ganesh Man Singh Foundation was established in 1997 and aims to provide society-building human resources. This project plans to build a community center in Baneshwor, to provide trainings related to income generation and to operate awareness programs such as public health and government services. With funds from the Kathmandu municipality, the construction of a learning center at the project site (the World Peace Temple compound) is already underway. The community center funded by the Japanese Embassy will be built in the same building on the second and third floors.

The Embassy of Japan in Nepal expects that this project will benefit the unemployed youth and women of Baneshwor and will also enhance the cordial friendship between Japan and Nepal.
