Japanese government has decided to extend financial assistance of US Dollar 315,284, equivalent to approximately Nepalese Rupees 33,946,628, to AMDA Multisectoral and Integrated Development Services (AMDA-MINDS) under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects Scheme.

AMDA-MINDS, a NGO based in Japan, will work with a Nepalese partner NGO, Social Democracy Studies Centre (SDSC), to implement the Project for Community Human Resource Development for Reconstruction of Houses in the Earthquake-affected Areas of Dhading District.

A Grant Contract relating to this project is scheduled to be signed and exchanged on 13th July between Masashi OGAWA, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, and Ms. Maiko KOBAYASHI, Country Director, AMDA-MINDS, Nepal Office, at the Embassy of Japan in Nepal

This grant assistance will be used to implement a project in twenty VDCs in the northern area of Dhading District, and aims to promote the reconstruction of houses in the earthquake-affected areas.  The major elements of this project are Technical Training for Civil Engineers, Technical Training for Local Masons, Technical Construction and Training for Local Residents and promotion of House Reconstruction at Local Level.

The project will provide a three-day technical training for six qualified civil engineers on earthquake-resistant structures. These trained engineers will work as trainers for the local masons.

The project will provide a seven-day technical training for thirty experienced local masons, including the topic of earthquake-resistant structures using local materials. Model sites will be set up in three places in Dhading.

 The project will provide a ten-day training in Dhading for nine hundred local residents on general building techniques under the guidance of the trained local masons.

The project employs ten community mobilizers from twenty VDCs in order to promote smooth communication between government services and local residents. In particular, the project promotes the sharing of information on the trends of government services on house reconstruction and a list of human resources trained through this project, as well as feedback on the situation of earthquake-affected areas in Dhading.

According to a press release issued by Japanese Embassy, the Embassy of Japan in Nepal expects the success of this project will bring the promotion of house reconstruction in earthquake-affected areas and will also enhance the cordial friendship between the people of Japan and Nepal.
