KOICA and MOHP signed agreement for Post-Disaster Health Service Recovery Program in Nuwakot District

HyungKyoo Kim, Country Director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency of the Government of the Republic of Korea and  Mahendra Shrestha, Chief of Policy, Planning and International Cooperation Division of the Ministry of Health and Population of the Government of Nepal has signed the Record of Discussions (ROD) for the Post-Disaster Health Service Recovery Program in Nuwakot District on December 10, 2015.

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on behalf of the Republic of Korea and Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP) on behalf of the Government of Nepal will implement the project. KOICA will provide a grant aid of no more than USD 8.4 million for the project.

According to a press release issued by KOICA, the main objective of the project is to recover the public health service in Nuwakot District by reconstructing health facilities and normalizing health services. The Program consists of two phases: Phase I includes the reconstruction of 6 Health Posts (HPs) in pre-fabricated structure and Phase II continues with the construction of District Hospital (DH). Both Phases entail the activities for strengthening Health Management Information System (HMIS) and improving capacity of health workers. Phase I will be completed by the first half of 2016 after the initiation by November 2015 at the latest, and Phase II is to be scheduled for its completion by September 2018.

Government of the Republic of Korea made a Pledging Statement to support USD 10 million for the post disaster reconstruction process at the International Conference on Nepal’s Reconstruction 2015 “Towards a Resilient Nepal” held in June 25, 2015 in Kathmandu. The Korean Government through KOICA has already supported 27 heavy equipments to the Ministry of Home Affairs worth USD 1.6 million of the Government of Nepal.
