Although young Nepalese entrepreneurs are yet to take broader leadership role in the organization's level, they have shown that they can make a difference in their own areas given them a driving seat and free hand in decision making.

This is what one saw in NADA Auto Show which recently concluded in Kathmandu. The young entrepreneurs and business leaders, many of whom attending the world’s renowned universities, have shown that they mean business.

Saurav Jyoti worked vigorously to popularize the NADA Auto show in his tenure as a president with support from his young colleagues. Now another young entrepreneur Shekhar Golchha is following the path making the NADA Auto Show as an important event in capital Kathmandu.

With import of vehicles worth around 40 billion rupees, NADA Auto show had its importance in seeking to expand the market and give consumers choices to see more autos of different nature in one place. The young entrepreneurs have shown that NADA is not only a place to promote autos but also a place where people talk about road safety.

At the inaugural program, Golchha was talking about the need of promotion of the auto industry. However, his predecessor Saurav Jyoti was taking part the next day in an interaction with the government officials on road safety issue.

“The government should help the private sector vehicles penetration by making vehicles accessible to middle-class people. Transportation sector is crucial for the development of all other sectors like agriculture and hydropower. Nepal’s automobile sector will not grow unless the government’s perception toward the sector is changed,” said Shekhar Golchha, president of Nepal Automobile Dealers’ Association (NADA) in the inauguration program.

As Jyoti talked about the importance of road safety with government officials, Saurav showed his passion to motorbike with collection of different types of motorbikes in his own yards.

As connectivity increases, there are huge markets for the vehicles. However, the government still regards vehicles as luxury placing heavy taxes on the items, with over 200 percent additional taxes.  Automobile dealers are suggesting revisiting the taxation.

"The state has been charging around 241 percent under different headings on automobiles making them much costlier. The rates should be revised as soon as possible so that the middle-class can have access to automobiles," said Saurabh Jyoti, the immediate past president of NADA.

However, the government has readymade answer. “The revenue collected from automobile sector that the government has been building new roads and standardizing existing roads,” Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat said showing no signs to relax taxes on vehicles and import of spare parts.

Participated in by 50 national and international companies, the five-day event attracted large numbers of people.  NADA Auto Show -- the country´s premier automobile show -- has been a benchmark for the developing and strengthening of the automobile market of the country.

"The NADA Auto Show has proven to be the major role-player in enhancing the development of the automobile sector here in terms of participation of stakeholders, number of enthusiasts in the show and the entire business,"  said Shekhar Golchha, the president of NADA. "The show has been a milestone event that has lately led stakeholders to even think of assembly plants in the country."

Making the NADA Auto Show a great success, younger entrepreneurs like Jyoti and Golchha have shown that they can make a different Nepal for 21st century given the youths get the leadership role.
