Despite limited resources and equipment, Nepalese security forces, Nepal Police and Nepal Armed Police under the command of Nepal Army have been launching rescue operation and distributing the relief materials to the needy people in earthquake affected areas near and far.

According to the press release issued by Nepal Army, the army personnel are active all over earthquake affected areas and making coordination with the rescue teams from 35 different countries, including People’s Republic of China,  India , USA, Britain, Japan and Canada, among others.

Although Nepal Army has just a few helicopters, it has beenlifting the injured people, and rescuing foreigners trapped in various trekking regions and remote Nepal. They have also distributed necessary food, medicines and waters.

“Nepal Army has been putting all its efforts and manpower in rescue and relief distribution along with coordinating rescue and relief teams that came from different parts of the world,” said spokesperson of Nepal Army. “Nepal Army mobilized its personnel soon after the earthquake struck Nepal.

Along with working jointly with rescue teams from various parts of the world, Nepal Army has also been effectively launching joint rescue teams, including Nepal Police and Nepal Armed Police, which have rescued dozens of people trapped in the earthquake.

Nepal Army’s rescue mission is now directed to the hills and remote parts of Nepal. Due to bad weather, rescue operation has been disturbed. Nepal Army isactively continuing with the support in rescue and relief distribution work.

One of the advantages with Nepal’s security forces is that they were well trained on rescue and relief missions and disaster management. With the support from US government, Nepal Army has conducted several programs in the past, including some joint exercises with the US Army.

Nepal Police Saturation

Most difficult work is for Nepal Police, which has an intensive duty among other security agencies. Along with carrying out rescue and relief operation, Nepal Police also performs its regular duty to maintain law and order and other internal security issues. As legal agency to maintain law and order and social order, Nepal Police has to fulfill additional duty also.

Along with maintaining the law and order, it is also active in rescue and rehabilitation.

“This is our duty. We are able to maintain law and order and all necessary work,” said spokesperson of Nepal Police. “There is saturation of manpower for Nepal Police.”

However, Nepal’s security forces have been doing a remarkable job in the process of rescue and relief. The challenges lie ahead for them in how these organizationsget involved in another phase of reconstruction and rehabilitation, including that of the buildings.
