Citizens of both nations to get single-day travel permit to visit each other's country

Nepali and Chinese citizens will soon be able to travel to bordering areas of each other’s country without any visa for a single day via Tatopani-Zhangmu and Rasuwagadi-Kerung border points. Citizens of the two nations will also be able to use their vehicles in territories of the other country soon.

Agreements in these regards were reached during the eighth meeting of the Nepal-Tibet Joint Tourism Coordination Committee held in Tibet Autonomous Region of China from December 23 to 27, says a statement issued today by the Department of Tourism (DoT). The final agreement was signed on December 25 reports THT on line.

The meeting was attended by DoT Director General Tulsi Prasad Gautam, who was leading a 16-member Nepali delegation, and Vice Chairman of Tibet Autonomous Region of China, Zeng Wanming, who was heading a 21-member Chinese delegation.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to raise the frequency of Kathmandu-Lhasa and Lhasa-Kathmandu flights. The two sides also reached a deal to build necessary infrastructure to enable cross-border vehicle movement and issue single-day travel permits to tourists of the two nations to visit bordering areas of each other’s country to promote tourism.

“Both the sides also agreed to identify new mountains located at the border of the two countries and promote them, and create appropriate mechanisms for climbing expeditions on mountains situated at the borders,” says the statement.

The ninth meeting of the committee will be held in Kathmandu in 2015.
