Despite vehement opposition from consumer groups, the Dairy Development Cooperation (DDC) — the state-owned dairy producer — has decided to hike the price of processed non-skimmed milk (in green packet) by Rs 10 per litre. According to a DDC, the fresh hike will benefit the milk producers (farmers). It has said that prices of cow milk (in yellow packet) and skimmed milk (in blue packet) have each been hiked by Rs eight per litre.

“The board meeting of DDC held today decided to hike the prices and the revised price will come into effect from tomorrow,” said Ganga Timsina, general manager of DDC, adding, “We’ve taken this decision to benefit the farmers as they have long been demanding through their cooperatives for adequate value of milk that we procure from them.”

DDC is currently producing and distributing three categories of milk, namely cow milk, skimmed milk and non-skimmed milk. With the revised rates, cow milk will cost Rs 72 per litre, while non-skimmed and skimmed milk will cost Rs 80 and Rs 64 per litre reports The Himalayan Times.
