The government has made public various achievements that it says it made in the past one year since the formation of the government under the leadership of Sushil Koirala.

Amid a press conference at the Prime Minister´s Office on Friday afternoon, Minister for Information and Communications Minendra Rijal read out the 148-point achievements of the government. The Koirala-led government was formed on Feb 11 last year reports My Republica online.

The government has described the successful holding of the 18th SAARC Summit as a major achievement, stating that this has further helped foster confidence in Nepal in the international arena.

The Power Trade Agreement (PTA), the agreement with the government of India on expediting construction of the Panchewor Multipurpose Project, and the Project Development Agreements for the Upper Karnali Project with GMR Company and for the Arun III Project with Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited are also listed as major achievements in the past one year. "These are historic breakthroughs in the hydropower development of Nepal. Such agreements have promoted foreign investment in the hydro sector," the government said in its document.

An agreement reached between the government of China and the Nepal government on zero tariff for the export of 800 Nepali products to the Chinese market has likewise been listed as an achievement by the government.

The government has claimed that it has been able to maintain Nepal´s strong presence in the international arena, and especially in strengthening bilateral relations with neighboring countries India and China. "Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Nepal in August. This was a visit by an Indian prime minister to Nepal after a gap of 17 years, and it has further helped to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries," Rijal said, reading the document in the presence of other ministers and secretaries.
