The government has assured the international community that it will not let the Constituent Assembly (CA) fail without promulgating the new constitution.

Inviting all available envoys and diplomats working in Kathmandu-based foreign missions at Lazimpat-based Hotel Radisson on Thursday, two senior ministers told them that the constitution writing body will deliver the constitution, sooner or later.

The government had called a meeting of all foreign diplomats working in Nepal to brief them about on-going political developments.

Foreign Minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey and Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat told them that the parties in the CA are still negotiating over the key constitutional issues in a bid to promulgate the constitution on the basis of consensus.

Even if complete consensus is not reachable, the constitution will be promulgated on the basis maximum consensus, which is two-third majority, the ministers said.

The ruling coalition is working toward generating a maximum support for a democratic constitution, they added.
