Embassy of India and Dhulikhel Municipality and Dhulikhel Hospital, Kavre District signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for providing Indian grant assistance of NRs. 50 million for the construction of a hospital building for Dhulikhel Hospital under Nepal-India Economic Cooperation Programme. 

Dhulikhel Hospital is an independent, non-Government Institution providing health care service to the people of remote areas through different outreaches. The hospital is facing shortage of space and is facing serious constraint on its capacity to deliver quality healthcare. The new hospital building being constructed with the Indian assistance will help address this constraint and augment other related facilities. The new infrastructure will provide improved healthcare services to over 2.5 million people in and around the area.

According to a press release issued by Indian Embassy, the project will be implemented by the Dhulikhel Municipality in accordance with the existing norms and regulations of the Government of Nepal. They will also be responsible for ensuring the quality of construction of the project and its timely completion. The MoU stipulates the constitution of an Oversight Committee, comprising representatives of the Municipality and other stakeholders with a view to ensuring the implementation of the project in a time bound manner.

In addition to this hospital, three projects in Kavre District have already been completed with Indian assistance of NRs. 54.4 million. India has also gifted 5 ambulances and 3 school buses for use in Kavre District.

Recognizing the importance of accelerating growth in Nepal, India remains committed to rendering all possible assistance in that direction. The India – Nepal Economic Programme has an outlay of over NRs. 65 billion with more than 475 large and small development projects completed or currently being implemented in almost all the districts of Nepal. These development projects mainly in the sectors of education, health and infrastructure development have been undertaken in response to local needs, and in partnership with the Government of Nepal.
