KU’s Twentieth Convocation Concluded

Prime Minister and Chancellor of Kathmandu University Sushil Koirala attended the 20th Convocation of Kathmandu University (KU). According to a press release issued by Prime Minister’s Press Coordinator Prakash Adhikary, he also delivered during the 20th Convocation of Kathmandu University at its Premise.

Total 1,246 students of various streams attended at convocation program. More than 18,000 students graduated from the university since its establishment in 1993. It was the idea of Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, founder vice chancellor, to establish Kathmandu University in Dhulikhel.

The University conferred certificates on 191 graduates from School of Sciences, 259 from School of Engineering, 401 from School of Management, 70 from School of Education and 242 from School of Arts at the program organized at KU, Dhulikhel.

It also distributed certificates to 83 medical students who had missed the convocation ceremony organised for them on November 8.  Of total graduates, 41 were foreigners, according to KU.

Meanwhile, students graduated in Engineering Ph.D., Biotechnology Ph.D. and Bachelor in Sciences for the first time in the University this year.

MBA top scorer Shraddha Panta was awarded the Chancellor Gold Medal whereas Bidya Sharma of Management and Rabi Dangol from Arts were honoured with Rana Bahadur Shah Gold Medal and Vice-Chancellor Gold Medal respectively.

Speaking at the function, Ex-officio Chancellor of the University, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, reiterated that the nation will get a new constitution by January 22, 2015.

He also expressed his confidence that educated youths can develop the nation toward a new height. "You have a responsibility for your nation's future," he said, "You can make your nation whatever you wish to make it."

Vice chancellor of the University Dr. Ram Kantha said this is a great moment for the history of University. “The graduate students are the asset of the country and they will contribute for the country’s development.”

Chief guest of the program was literature figure Satya Mohan Joshi, who could not attend the program due to health reason.
