At a time when there was tense situation in with throwing chair and unending debates over the constitution in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu on Tuesday 20, Nepalese and foreign technicians working in Gongar have achieve a major progress in Upper Tamakoshi, Nepal's biggest Hydropower Project.

The technicians succeed to break through 374 Meter deep (with 4.6 meter dia) Lower Penstock Shaft Tunnel of Upper Tamakoshi Hydro Electric Project with a final blast today dated 20 January 2015.

A day when Nepal's Constituent Assembly saw war like situation, Nepalese and foreign technicians and workers in the remote part of Nepal had time for celebration for their hard own achievement.

Whatever political development may be taking place in capital Kathmandu, the individuals involved in the project are more concerned about how to complete the project on schedule and generate electricity to feed the power hungry residents of the capital.

At a time when Upper Tamakoshi Project is completing its 70 percent of civil works, it makes a major progress in achieving breakthrough in lower penstock Shaft Tunnel on Tuesday, January 20, 2015.

"At least we succeed to break through 374 Meter deep (with 4.6 meter dia) Lower Penstock Shaft Tunnel of Upper Tamakoshi Hydro Electric Project with a final blast today dated 20 January 2015," said Bigyan Prasad Shrestha Project chief of  Upper Tamakoshi Hydro Power Project.

"This is one of the critical mile stone of the project that will pave the way for successful completion of the project. Despite several attempts being made starting from May 2013, finally we achieved on this attempt. We appreciate all the efforts made by our team including the Contractor Sino-Hydro and the Consultant JV Norconsult-Lahmeyer," said project chief Shrestha..

As the project also is proceedings achieving target in its work in Transmission Line laying foundation of over 20 towers, there is hope over timely power generation.

After the completion of Upper Tamakosi, the district will be a key player in Nepal’s internal power generation and it will remain so for some time to come. It will also shift the power base from west to Eastern Nepal.
