Nobel Peace laureate Kailash Satyarthi has urged Nepali lawmakers to ensure children’s rights in the new constitution and promote compassion for kids so that they grow as good individuals over the years.

“There must be one very important element in a constitution and that is children’s rights. I request you to ensure this in the new constitution you are going to produce soon,” said Satyarthi at a gathering of lawmakers at Lhotse Hall of the Constituent Assembly (CA).

He also proposed to establish a Global Parliamentary Forum for Children to work for ensuring rights of children in need across the world reports My Republica.

Satyarthi said that he has floated this idea to lawmakers from European countries and that a group of Indian leaders had already showed support for him for the cause.

He said he floated the same idea to Speaker Subas Nembang, whom he called on at the CA building just before addressing the gathering.

“I want South Asia to lead this campaign and the proposal to hold its first convention in the land of Buddha -- Nepal -- has impressed me and I have supported it,” he said. According to him, lawmaker Dilli Chaudhary who worked with Satyarthi for years to rescue Nepali girls from Indian circuses and brothels had floated the idea to hold the convention in Nepal.
