The alliance of 19 parties led by the Unified CPN-Maoist decided to continue obstructing Constituent Assembly meeting till demand to draft the constitution through consensus be made. They declared that they will disrupt the ruling parties’ plan to begin the process of settling disputed issues of the new constitution through voting.

Constituent Assembly Secretariat decided to mobilize formidable numbers of Marshal from Wednesday to prevent any further unruly behavior of CA members.

On Tuesday, CA Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang began CA meeting by calling Nepali Congress Chief Whip Chinkaji Shrestha to the rostrum to propose names for the proposal committee. Immediately, some UCPN-M CA members obstructed his way preventing him from going towards the rostrum reports THT Online.

Protesting members then chanted slogans against the ruling parties at the well. The activity continued for more than 90 minutes till CA Chairman Nembang postponed today’s meeting till 11am tomorrow, stating that the CA could not proceed due to the obstruction caused by some CA members.

Though number of CA Marshals was increased compared to last time to prevent any untoward incident, younger members of the parties were seen standing beside PM Koirala, UML Chairman KP Oli and UCPN-M Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, apparently to provide them extra security.

With rift between the ruling and opposition parties growing, CA Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang seems keen to bring the two sides again on the negotiating table and resume attempts to forge consensus. Although ruling NC and CPN-UML are pushing CA Chairman Nembang to begin the process of forming “proposal committee” with the support of Marshals, Nembang said, “The parties should make another attempt to come together and I will continue my efforts towards that.”
