Top leaders of three major political parties have expressed their commitment to provide all necessary support to the recommendation committee for the formation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission on Enforced Disappearances (CED).

Leaders, including Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and UCPN (Maoists) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal -- expressed such commitment at the recommendation committee meeting on Tuesday.

“The committee has already held interaction with representatives of conflict victims, civil society, human rights activists, experts and other political parties,” said Sudeep Pathak, representative of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) at the recommendation committee. “We held discussions with top leaders of three major political parties,” he added.

According to Pathak, the committee briefed the top leaders on the recommendation modalities and international practices with regards to forming TRC.

“Leaders have promised there would be no interference but that they would provide full support to the committee,” said Pathak.
