A parliamentary party meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) has proposed to submit the proposals of various political parties for voting in the full CA and decide the disputes through majority vote.

The parliamentary party meeting of the largest party has said that those proposals securing a majority vote should be forwarded to the CA’s drafting committee for preparing the first draft of the new constitution reports My Republica online.

Earlier, UML also ready to drop questionnaire idea. UML has already made it clear that the coming process will go through the voting at CA.

The NC’s decision comes at a time when the ruling parties have of late announced that the major disputes in constitution making are to be decided through majority vote instead of wasting further time in the name of resolving them in consensus.

“This meeting suggests that the proposals presented through the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus

Committee (CPDCC) of the Constituent Assembly (CA) should be decided through the next CA meeting,” reads the two-point decision of the NC’s parliamentary party meeting on Wednesday. “Then, the proposals [securing a majority vote] should be sent to the drafting committee.”

The NC took the decision even as the major ruling coalition parties including CPN-UML were reportedly discussing about forming a committee to prepare questionnaires in objective format so that these could be tabled for voting.

NC Chief Whip Chinkaji Shrestha said the NC took the decision only after the UML also became ready for the option.
