To celebrate 240^th Anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America, ambassador Alaina B. Teplitz hosted a reception today February 22 at ambassador’s residence Kamalkunj.

Independence Day, known as the Fourth of July, commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 by the American colonies from British rule and established a new nation, the Untied States of America.

“In Nepal, our Independence Day event coincides with another holiday, Presidents’ Day. Originally created to celebrate George Washington’s birthday, today honor all 44 U.S. Presidents, from George Washington to Barak Obama. We celebrate our presidents for their leadership, their commitment to public service, their dedication to American values, and the progress and sacrifice they made for the sake of our democracy and its citizens,” said ambassador Teplitz.

Ambassador said that the promulgation of new inclusive constitution in Nepal was a very important and the time is for its successful implementation fulfilling the wishes of Nepalese,” said ambassador addressing the reception.

Attended by ministers, leaders of various political parties, diplomats based in Kathmandu, senior civil servants, security personal civil society leaders and US citizens living in Nepal, chief guest of the program was vice president Nanda Bahadur Pun.
