The Bhotekoshi Power Project (45 MW), which saw disruptions in its work over the last six months since the massive landslide at Jure, Ramche of Sindhupalchowk, has started generating power.

The project had suffered after political parties, including CPN (UML), UCPN (Maoist), Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist, created hurdles demanding 35 per cent shares of the project be allotted to the people from the project affected area. However, the Nepali Congress demanded 10 per cent shares to the people from the project affected area.

The reconstruction started from December 25 after the company and the political parties agreed on five per cent shares to the locals.

The project, which had started trial production a few days before, has formally started production from the last week of January 2015. The power generated has been fed to the central transmission line, said Narendra Prajapati, Chief Executive Officer at the Bhotekoshi Power Company Private Limited. The project will produce only 18 MW power as the flow of river water decreased in the winter.
