Over Fifty Person Kills In Taplejung Lanslide

 As many as 50 people lost their lives while scores went missing in the landslide triggered by incessant rain on Wednesday night. According to Ministry of Home Affairs, the landslide has buried six VDCs of the district including Liwang, Santhakra, Khokling, Thinglabu and Tingtep. Nine members of the same family were killed by the disaster.

Although Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Nepal Armed Police continue to work in search operation, they are getting difficult to reach the most affected villages of the region. Nepal Army’s helicopter carried out some injured persons of the affected areas.

As experts are predicting that more people more landslides during the monsoon, this is the first incident of landslide just at the onset of the rainy season. According to a press release issued by Nepal Army, it mobilizes rescue team from nearby village soon after it received the news.

rime Minister Sushil Koiral and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli who were scheduled to leave for Taplejung to observe the loss of lives and properties by the rain-induced landslides have cancelled their visit due to bad weather.

A schedule had it that PM Sushil Koirala, UML Chief Oli and Chief of Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher JB Rana would fly to Taplejung this moring to take stock of the loss of lives and properties by the landslide
