The Embassy of Denmark will host an inauguration ceremony of a Matchmaking Event 2014 between Danish and Nepali private companies at Hotel Shangri-Laon Monday 3rd March 2014.  There will be 12 Danish and more than 40 Nepali private companies from four different sectors participating in the event - Handicraft, Agriculture, IT and Tourism. The event will include presentations of the Danida Business Partnerships programme and statements by the Danish Ambassador, Secretary of Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, President of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Vice President of Confederation of Nepalese Industries. A number of individual meetings between companies from Denmark and Nepal will also be held during the week.

The objective of the Matchmaking Event 2014 is to promotebusiness partnerships between Nepali and Danish companies. The long term goal of this event is to strengthen the trade between Nepal and Denmark under the programme named Danida Business Partnerships (DBP).

According to a press release of Embassy of Denmark, the DBP is a facility within the Danish development cooperation, which provides financial support for the preparation and implementation of commercially oriented partnerships between Danish companies and a wide array of local Nepali companies in order to mitigate some of the risks inherent to the pursuit of new business opportunities in Nepal. The programme has been running successfully for a decade in strengthening and capacitating Nepali companies with regard to transfer of knowledge, sustainable business practices, technology and innovative solutions from the Danish companies in various prioritized sectors like agriculture, health, IT, handicraft, waste management and tourism.

The Matchmaking Event at Shangri-La will be followed by individual company visits to the facilities/offices of Nepali companies. The Event is also an opportunity for companies from both countries to learn about challengers and explore new business opportunities of the private sector in Nepal. Job creation and promotion of sustainable, green, fair and inclusive economic growth are also long-term objectives of the Danida Business Partnerships Programme.
