During his visit to Chitwan District on 9 April 2014, Ambassador of India, Ranjit Rae inaugurated the newly constructed school building for Shree Sharda Higher Secondary School under Nepal- India Economic Cooperation Program. The function was attended by the representatives of District Development Committee, Chitwan, community leaders and a large number of people from the area.

According to a press release of Indian Embassy, established in 1966 as a Primary School and subsequently upgraded to Higher Secondary level in 2011, Shree Sharda Higher Secondary School is situated at Sharda Nagar VDC in Chitwan District. The new school building constructed with Indian assistance of NRs.  29.5 million will help in creation of better facilities for over 800 students, about 50% of whom are girls and would create an improved environment for learning and contribute to the development of education in the district.

In his address, Ambassador of India underlined the importance of the Nepal–India Economic Cooperation Program as a cornerstone of the development partnership between the two countries. He expressed the hope that the various projects being implemented under the program will help the people of Nepal in their quest for peace and prosperity.

In addition to this school, the campus building for Birendra Multiple Campus has been completed with Indian assistance of NRs. 14.4 million and work is also going on five development projects with Indian assistance of NRs. 134.6 million in Chitwan District.  India has also provided eleven ambulances, one school bus and one blood collection van for use in the district. 

Recognizing the importance of accelerating growth in Nepal, India remains committed to rendering all possible assistance in that direction. The India – Nepal Economic Program has an outlay of over NRs. 65 billion with more than 475 large and small development projects completed or currently being implemented in almost all the districts of Nepal. These development projects mainly in the sectors of education, health and infrastructure development have been undertaken in response to local needs, and in partnership with the Government of Nepal.
