Russia's composers have gained a permanent place in the history of the world's classical music. Russian classical music is a genre of classical music related to Russia's culture, people, and character. They preserved Russia's folkloric music in their pieces, or re-imaged medieval music.

The 19th century romantic period saw the largest development of his genre, with the emergence in particular a group called 'The Five', headed by Balakirev included Rimsky-Korsakov, Modest Mussorgsky, Borodin and Cesar Cui.They banded together and made their goal the promotion of purely Russian music. Their compositions were inspired by Russian history and folk stories and used traditional tunes and harmonies. It's the perfect example of nationalistic music, which had a huge rise all over Europe towards the end of the 1800s.This was considered a golden age for Russian classical music.
