Civil contractor, China Gezhouba (Group) Corporation (CGGC), has bulldozed the cover dam of Chameliya River after successfully building main dam as it has not received the contracted amount.
River water should have flown from the diversion tunnel but due to demolition of the cover dam, river is flowing through the main dam. Due to high current of water, there is possibility of damage on the structure of main dam, said an official of Nepal electricity authority (NEA). According to him, it cost more than NRS 80 million to build the cover dam. It was built to control the flood water in rainy season.
Since NEA was not able to pay the amount in time; CGGC was not able to build the dam as stated, said Rajeshwar Man Sulpya, director of power trade department at the Nepal Electricity Authority. According to him, NEA is left to pay 200 million to CGGC. Although NEA and CGGC contracted to pay the money within 56 days after the time of submission of the bill, NEA used to take more than 90 days to pay the amount, Sulpya said. “After failing to pay within the specified time, CGGC is sending contract termination letter every month,” he said.
