Maharajganj: People of Indo-Nepal border are learning the Chinese language as if it is their religion. In recent times, several Chinese learning centres have emerged in small towns and markets along the border.

In order to make a stronghold on India’s trusted friend- Nepal, China through these centres ensure that the Nepalese citizens will be familiar with its culture and power.

People -- especially students and youths -- are flocking to these centres to learn the Chinese language. Experts feel that the situation could be dangerous for India from the strategic point of view as the trend is believed to be a shrewd strategy adopted by the Chinese.

The centres are fast coming up in Belhia and Bherwa areas close to Sunauli border besides Virathamu, Butval, Nepalgunj, Pokhar, Bhorang and Sunsari. Not only this, many such learning centres have opened in Nepal as well in Parasi, Chitvan regions near the BPO post at  Theetubari in India while many small towns are planning to open such centres.
It is to be noted, there was an agreement between Nepal and China in 2005 which approved the Nepal-China Friendship Association. Following the treaty, the exchange of information started taking place between the Nepal's Intelligence Department and Chinese intelligence agencies.

SSB Commandant Kamalkant says, “We were keeping a close watch on the activities of these centers, which have come up along the Nepal border.”
