Senior experts of China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) affiliated with China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Peking University (PU) were in town at the invitation of China Study Center (CSC), Nepal. Prof. Gao Fei, director of Center for China Diplomacy Studies at the CFAU and Mr. Kong Fan-jun, professor at the School of International Studies, PU were on a week-long visit for understanding the contemporary internal and external relations issues Nepal has been experiencing in the early years of 21st century. Understanding the relations at both the bilateral and regional levels was a focus of the visit. To recall, after receiving observer status in South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), China has recently appointed its ambassador to Nepal as also the envoy for the SAARC.
According to press release of CSC, in the discussion metering held at the CSC yesterday, views were exchanged between the Nepali and Chinese experts on China and the US roles in the region, factors influencing Nepal's independent decision making, the border issue, matters relating to foreign policy and economic development, and collaboration between CSC and CFAU. Participating in the meeting for the CSC side were Madan Regmi, Upendra Gautam, Rajeshwar Acharya, Mohan Lohani, Gopi Nath Dawadi and Prakash Neupane.
