British Minister of State for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans the Mark Francois announced new regulations with regard to the recruitment of Commonwealth personnel into the British Armed Forces.

The new regulations will not affect personnel already serving or undergoing recruitment and do not apply to the Brigade of Gurkhas, who are recruited only in Nepal and under separate arrangements agreed with the Government of Nepal. There are no plans to change the recruitment rules for the Gurkhas.

According a press release of British Embassy, from 11 July 2013, ex-Gurkhas who apply to join the Reserves will need to prove that they have Indefinite Leave to Remain (Settlement). They will already have this therefore; the new regulations will not impact ex-Gurkhas applying to join the Reserves.
