U.S. Ambassador to Nepal Peter W. Bodde traveled to Nepalgunj and met with local government officials, business leaders and NGOs representatives. While in Nepalgunj, Ambassador Bodde visited USAID’s Sajhedari project, a new $25 million five year program to promote more inclusive, participatory, and effective community-level development. He also met with NGO groups conducting U.S.-government funded anti-trafficking efforts in the region. In his meeting with the District Election Officer, Ambassador Bodde was briefed about preparations for the November elections.
In his remarks to the Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ambassador Bodde stressed the need for business leaders to work with political leaders to develop an agenda for improving the economy of Nepal. “For Nepal to reach its potential it must have a political system that represents Nepal’s diversity. Holding free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections is a crucial first step,” he said.
