U.S. Ambassador to Nepal Peter W. Bodde traveled to Bhairahawa and met with local government officials, business leaders and NGOs representatives. In his meetings with the Chief District Officer and the District Election Officer, Ambassador Bodde was briefed about preparations for the November elections. Ambassador Bodde also visited USAID partners who are working with local Election Commission offices to inform marginalized populations about the election process.
In his remarks to the Siddarthnagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ambassador Bodde recalled that in the United States, September 11th is a National Day of Service and Remembrance. He said, “We recall how the worst terrorist attack in American history brought out the best in the American people. We remember how Americans lined up to give blood and how volunteers drove across the country to lend a hand. 9/11 reminds us that in times of challenge, everyone’s efforts count. I firmly believe that as individuals we all have the power to improve our own communities with just a little time and energy.”
