Indian Embassy and B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation organized the 9th edition of Poemandu on the occasion of 105th birth anniversary of Mahakabi Laxmi Prasad Devkota on November 12. It was the initiation of a B.P. Koirala India Nepal Foundation.
While expressing his gratitude to Indian Embassy and B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation for the continuation of its initiatives like Poemandu and many others Dr. Uprety said, “It is really encouraging for litterateurs and poets of Nepal to be a part of the initiatives of B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation and Indian Embassy.
“Other than the events organized at the Nepal-Bharat Library, B.P. Koirala India Nepal Foundation and Embassy of India have worked closely with Nepal Academy under various projects to promote Nepal-India relations and to encourage literary and cultural activities of Nepal.” Dr. Uprety added, “In addition to this, Nepal Academy will soon release some of the great works of Mahakabi Devkota, translated in Hindi in assistance of the Embassy of India and B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation.”
Eminent lyricist who penned the national anthem of Nepal Byakul Maila also graced the occasion and recited his poem to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Devkota. Vice Chancellor of Nepal Academy Dr Ganga Prasad Uprety and Poet cum diplomat Abhay Kumar offered the garland at the image of Mahakabi Devkota in the beginning of the program.
Other prominent poets such as Durga Prasad Ghimire, Mobin Khan, Vijay Dhoj Thapa, Kamala Risal Jyoti, Gayatri Bist, Dilliraj Aryal, Durba Madikarmi, Kamal Koirala, Engina Karki, Urmila Pant Pandey, Uday Chandra Das, Dr. Kashi Raj Pandey, Jayanta Pokhrel, Richa, Ranjana Poudel and Ratna Nidhi Regmi, recited their poems at the event in varied languages such as Nepali, Hindi, English and Urdu.
Poemandu is one of the popular events organized by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu and B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation every month at Nepal Bharat Library. This is in addition to its other popular monthly events such as Cinemandu, Conversations and Voices.
