U.S. Ambassador Peter W. Bodde closed the American Road Show program in Janakpur today. The eleven-day Road Show program visited the Dhankuta, Udayapur, and Dhanusha districts. During the program, thousands of visitors reviewed exhibits of books, watched movies, played games, spoke with U.S. Embassy officers, and heard presentations on science, studying in the United States, using English language resources, U.S. culture, and other topics. Visitors also viewed a traveling exhibit on Climate Change, displays on renewable energy technologies, and had opportunities to use the services of the new Embassy Book Bus (a mobile library with solar-powered, free WiFi access to the Internet).
In his closing remarks, Ambassador Bodde said, “Through the book exhibitions and book donations, we hope to encourage reading and literacy. As we all know, education is the key to building a strong future for the people of Janakpur and the Dhanusa region, and for all of Nepal.” Over 12,000 English and Nepali books, many of them children’s books, were donated to public libraries and schools in each of the districts.
