United States Ambassador to Nepal Peter W. Bodde met with Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat in Singha Durbar today to discuss issues of mutual importance. One of those issues was the need to jumpstart the economy. Ambassador Bodde highlighted the opportunities for economic growth and policy barriers that discourage investment in Nepal.
Earlier, ambassador Bodde also met with Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transportation Bimalendra Nidhi, Minister of Agriculture Hari Parajuli, and Minister of State for Labor and Employment Tek Bahadur and discussed topics of possible increased cooperation in separate meetings today. Ambassador Bodde and Minister Nidhi touched on roads, traffic safety, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation in their meeting. Ambassador Bodde and Minister Parajuli discussed the long partnership on agriculture between the U.S. and Nepal, USAID’s Feed the Future program and U.S. support for Nepal’s Agricultural Development Strategy. Finally, Minister Bahadur and Ambassador Bodde talked about labor migration.
