Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Neelam KC Khadka met Hollywood actress Freida Pinto g in London on 23rd July on the sidelines of the Girl Summit 2014 organized by the UK Government. She met with minister Khadka for a short while during the Summit to discuss how the issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment could be tackled together.
The Minister talked about Nepal government commitment to end child marriage while providing equal opportunities to girls through multi-sector engagement and inter-ministerial partnership.
According to a press release issued by British Embassy Kathmandu, Freida is supporting the Girl Summit 2014 and its aim of galvanizing efforts to end child marriage and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in a generation.
Freida spoke at the summit's closing session, urging the commitments made on the day to be translated into action. She also met some of the youth activists who gave their views to decision makers on what needs to be done to end FGM and child marriage, and urging those in power to listen to the views of young people.
