Tomoo Hozumi, a national of Japan, took up his post as the new Representative for UNICEF in Nepal.

 “It has been a long cherished dream of mine to work in Nepal, and I feel honoured to have been selected to carry on the work that UNICEF is doing with the Government and partners for the betterment of children and women in this country,” said Hozumi on arrival.

Hozumi's move to Nepal is his third posting as a UNICEF Country Representative. He began his career with UNICEF in Bhutan in 1990. In 1992, he moved to India as the Chief of the Field Office for the State of Gujarat. Between 1997 and 1999, he worked for Save the Children Japan in Osaka as the Chief of the Overseas Program Unit.

He returned to UNICEF in 1999 and served as a Program Officer in UNICEF in Tokyo until 2002. Thereafter he was Senior Program Officer for UNICEF Cambodia between 2002 and 2006. He was then promoted to the position of Country Representative for UNICEF Thailand in 2006. He was also Country Representative for UNICEF Philippines between 2012 and 2014.

Hozumi obtained his Bachelor's degree in Law from Sophia University in Tokyo in 1985, and Master's degree in International Relations from the Graduate School of International Relations at Tokyo University in 1987. In 1989, he obtained an MPhil in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex in the UK.
