KOICA Alumni Association of Nepal(KAAN) and KOICA organizes a Seminar to commemorate the 40 years of Diplomatic Relation between Korea and Nepal.

KAAN with support from the Embassy of Republic of Korea and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) organized Seminar on “Implication of Korean Development experience in Nepalese Context” in Everest Hotel on August 22, 2014.  This year marks the 40th year’s anniversary of Korea Nepal diplomatic relation, which started in 1974.  The Korean embassy in Nepal plans to organize various activities throughout the year to celebrate this important event.

KAAN is an institution established in 2001 to continue good relation between KOICA and the Nepalese who have participated in KOICA’s short or long term fellowship programs. Its main purpose is to share knowledge and experiences learned in Korea and contribute in the development of nation. Currently there are 286 KAAN members. 

The objective of seminar is to present the master’s thesis which were done by the government officials while doing their Master’s in Korea. The selected thesis for this seminar are “Socioeconomic Development of Rural Nepal: Lessons from Saemaul Undong (New Village Movement) of South Korea and “Analysis of Poverty Reduction through Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women Project in Nepal”. Both the presenters highlighted more on their recommendation in their specific field and focused more on the applicable Korean practices to Nepal. 

Korean ambassador to Nepal Choe Yong-jin congratulated all the Alumni members, Korean associations and appreciated their contribution in promoting cultural ties between Korea and Nepal. He also highlighted that Korea being one of the emerging development partner in Nepal, Korea has lot more to share in terms of development practices that can be applicable in Nepal.

Government official from different Ministry gave their expert views on the thesis as well as the recommendation given by the presenters.   More than 100 people belonging to KAAN, Korean Universities Alumni Groups, Korean Associations, representative of Korean INGOs, students from relevant dept from TU and KU participated in the program and actively participated in the program.
