Thousands of people marched demanding bold action and climate justice

Thousands of youth and civil society representative marched Saturday from Bhrikuti Mandap to Basantapur Durbar Square demanding world leaders to take bold action and come up with the new climate deal to save the world from the global climate crisis.

Participants of March chanted slogans like “We Demand Climate Justice”, “System Change - Not Climate Change.”  Participants also sang Climate Song “ohh- it’s hot in here .. there’s too much carbon in the atmosphere, take action take action and get some satisfaction.”

One of the campaigner Rojeena Manandhar said, “World leaders should take the climate change issue seriously, they cannot further delay.”  People’s Climate March- Kathmandu team also submitted 8-point demand letter to the prime minister ahead of the UN Climate Summit. Prime Minister of Nepal will address the world leaders at the Summit and also represent as a chair of LDC countries to the UN climate talks.

More than 3300 events are being organized in 150 countries demanding bold climate action from global leaders.

Romesh Yadav, youth climate activist said, “I am marching for poor vulnerable communities and for the future generation.”

Jasmita Khadgi, one of the participants of the march said, “I am thankful to the organizers for organizing such an event and it shows how serious we Nepalese are about our future and generations to come thereby advocating the issue.”

“People’s Climate March- Kathmandu is being organized by alliance of 25 youth and civil society organizations,” said Regan Sapkota, organizer of the program.
