Indian Embassy and B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation organized 18th edition of Cinemandu on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Nepal Bharat Library, Nepal-Airlines Building in New Road.

This edition of Cinemandu screened acclaimed Nepali feature film Antaraal. Director of the film Dipa Basnet and actors Manav Subedi and Asishma Nakarmi joined the screening of Antaraal.

The film represented the story of many youths of Nepal, some of them who come to Kathmandu from different corners of Nepal with hopes and aspirations for better future for themselves, and some of them who despite being born in the city are sandwiched between their dreams and peer pressure of the society they have to live with. The story further unveils the struggle of four lead characters in the film, each with a common principle – one does not have to migrate or travel elsewhere than their own country to pursue their dream.

Director Dipa Basnet and actors Manav Subedi and Ashishma Nakarmi engaged with audience after the screening of the film.

Dipa Basnet shared, “This film almost carries my own story. There were many who told me to go oversees for better opportunities. However, I was always of the feeling that we can do so much here, there are many scopes to explore in Nepal itself. This was first attempt in the film industry as a director of a mainstream film. I am aware there is so much yet to learn. I hope my next movie Shree Paanch Ambare will connect to my audience like Antaraal did.”

According to a press release issued by Abhay Kumar FS(PIC) & Secretary, BPKF, Embassy of India, Kathmandu Actor Subedi enjoined, “I can very much relate myself with my character in the film. Its still not easy to choose acting as a career in Nepal and there is not much of an encouragement from the society too. But I know that this is what I want to do and one day I will not have to explain to anyone about my profession in words.”

Actress Nakarmi also shared how this film has opened many new doors for her to explore her passion in acting in Nepali silver screen.
