The monsoon season has been harsh to Nepal this year. With continuous rain and severe gales, floods have affected around 150,000 people in 19 districts in Nepal. Nepal Red Cross has provided immediate help to the affected areas and with a recent donation from Embassy of Denmark they have distributed an additional 700 non-food-relief items kits for the affected people.
“Following the recent flooding in August and September, Nepal Red Cross has distributed more than 5000 non-food-relief kits for 25000 affected people and additional 2000 blankets and tarpaulin,” said in a press release issued by Embassy of Denmark.
The recent Danish donation to Nepal Red Cross has been used to purchase an additional 700 non-food-relief item kits. The non-food-relief items are for the many families in need and consist of tarpaulin, rope, blankets, kitchen utensils, and fabrics for new clothing. The non-food-relief item kits have been distributed to Nepal Red Cross storages across Nepal. The donation has contributed to maintain fully equipped storages, to enable Nepal Red Cross to provide immediate help when a disaster happens again.
The floods and landslides have this year damaged roads, bridges, local markets and transport vehicles – in areas where people are poor and vulnerable. The immediate relief provided by Nepal Red Cross, NGO’s and local governments are highly needed.
