Dr. Yuval Lavy, an Israeli Obstetrics and Gynecologist, brought a different kind of treatment to the women of Dhulikhel, performing Urogynecological and Laparoscopic surgeries. Urogynecology deals with pelvic floor problems in women while Laparoscopic surgery is the extraction of ovaries and cysts in uterus.

Dr. Lavy was able to share his knowledge with the doctors from Dhulikhel Hospital, Kathmandu University Hospital and operated on more than 15 women from the marginalized communities of Dhulikhel and Panauti. Four medical consultants from Dhulikhel Hospital were also involved during the operations.

The urogynecological operations that Dr. Lavy performed area part of an unexplored field in Nepal and the treatment had been unavailable due to lack of expertise and equipment.

During his stay in Nepal, Dr. Lavy had also provided lectures onurogynecology to the MBBS students including nurses, interns and post graduate students at the Dhulikhel Hospital for their capacity and knowledge building.

Yehonathan Lebel, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Israel, appreciating the work of Dr. Lavy, said "this is the latest in the medical cooperation between Nepal and Israel and we are very happy to have been able to provide this support to women in need.  We hope that in the future, Nepali doctors will be able to go to Israel in order to widen the available treatment in Nepal".

Dr. Lavy is the Head of Urogynecology Unit, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hadassah Hospital in Israel.  He is obstetrics gynecology and urogynecology specialist.  Dr. Lavy is also an instructor at the Advanced Hysteroscopy training and chairman of the Urogynecological Association in Israel.
