A senior advisor of to the Chinese government has claimed that Beijing has been preparing for the visit of President Xi Jinping to Nepal to promote bilateral relations. Professor Ma Jiali of the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR) also hinted that President Xi could visit Nepal exclusively.
According to Prof Ma, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has been preparing to visit Nepal in the near future and that visit would finalize the president´s visit. Ma is South Asia expert at CICIR, which is known to act as a strategic advisor to the Chinese government reports My Republica.
“Beijing has discussed a lot on giving high priority to the bilateral relation with Nepal. The visit of Foreign Minister Wang Yi in near future could highlight it,” said Prof Ma, who was in Chengdu, provincial capital of Sichuan, to attend a forum organized by the South Asia Study Organization. “The visit of Minister Wang would prove that China wants to take forward the bilateral relation with Nepal in a high speed. I hope it would bring positive results,” he added.
According to Nepal´s ambassador to Beijing, Mahesh Maskey, the Chinese Foreign Minister could visit Nepal within the next two weeks but the Chinese Foreign Ministry is yet to send formal information regarding the visit. It would be Wang´s first visit to Nepal after assuming the office of Chinese Foreign Ministry.
“The visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi would open up doors for the top Chinese leaders to visit Nepal,” said Ambassador Maskey.
