B.P. Eye Foundation and Indian Embassy signed  two Memoranda of Understanding  for Indian Government's  Grant Assistance of NRs.49.4 Million towards Ear Surgical and School Ear Health programmes to BP Eye Foundation in Nepal.

According to Indian Embassy press release, the Ear Surgical Programme aims to develop Ear Health Care personnel by providing training and establishing District Ear Care Centres, so that no patient with ear problem remains unattended. Those needing referral will be sent to Zonal hospitals in Nepal.  The objective of the project is to contribute to improving the hearing and well being of the affected people of Nepal in a phased manner. The Foundation expects to serve an estimated 12,500 people in rural Districts of Nepal, perform 1,250 Ear Surgeries and fit 1250 hearing aids utilizing 100% financial assistance from Government of India.  Kathmandu Valley with three Districts (Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Kathmandu), one districts of Terai (Morang) and one district of Hill (Kavrepalanchowk) will also be covered under the programme.

Under the School Ear Health Programme screening of 37,500 school going children will be conducted in 75 schools of 3 districts of Kathmandu Valley (Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Kathmandu) for their hearing abilities. 375 teachers from these schools will be trained in ear health screening  and 1,000 hearing aids will be distributed to the school going children.

Health is one of the core areas of cooperation between India and Nepal.  Beginning with the supply of medicines and equipments, the cooperation has gone on to build and develop health infrastructure ranging from major hospitals to numerous health projects in the farthest corners of Nepal. 

Government of India’s assistance to B.P. Eye Foundation is a part of the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme which has an outlay of over NRs.75 billion with more than 500 large and small development projects completed or currently being implemented in almost all the districts of Nepal.  These projects have been undertaken in response to local needs and in partnership with the Government of Nepal.
