Nepal’s immunization program suffer due to scarcity of vaccine

Experts argue that 0ngoing shortage of vaccines could be big setback for the goal of eliminating disease from Nepal.

Bureaucratic failure in taking a decision on time about the purchase of BCG and measles-rubella (MR) vaccines has cost the government dear and also led to a nationwide shortage of the crucial vaccines reports My Republica.

Officials at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) said that the government now has to pay over Rs 150 million additionally because of their indecision in procuring the vaccines on time.

The Child Health Division (CHD) of the Department of Health Services (DoHS), which is responsible for administering the vaccines throughout the country, said that MR vaccines could have been purchased at Rs 385 per vial some two years back.
