AIN Program on Disability

AIN Disability Working Group organized a program for the celebration in solidarity of International Day of People with Disabilities 2014. The highlight of the event was launching of the Video “AIN Efforts and Aspirations towards Inclusive Development

AIN Disability Working Group organized a program for the celebration in solidarity of International Day of People with Disabilities 2014. The highlight of the event was launching of the Video “AIN Efforts and Aspirations towards Inclusive Development" and the “Accessibility Directory”, English Version.

Addressing the program chief guest chief secretary Leela Mani Paudyal expressed that the government is committed to protect the rights of person with disability. During the program, Paudyal also launched Accessibility Directory –English Version.

AIN Disability Inclusion Survey 2013 was also released. A documentary was also screened during the interaction program. Chairperson of NDFN Sudarshan Subedi said that there are enough resources to address the issue related to person with disability.

During the program, AIN DWG Video: AIN-Efforts and Aspiration towards inclusive Development was launched. The documentary highlighted the state of people with disability in the country.

Deputy Country Director of Save the Children said that Nepal’s efforts to graduate to developing countries status without making progress in social sector have no meaning.  “Development is not just making few people reach and remaining poor,” said Khadka.

Joint secretary at Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Welfare Shanker Prasad Pathak said that the Ministry is ready to work with AIN to promote the rights of people with disabilities and other social development sector.

Regional Head of Human Resource and Administration Smriti Shrestha said that there is enough place to provide employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Wrapping up the program, Chairperson of AIN Deepak Raj Sapkota said there is still a long way to go. “We are taking certain symbolic step to sensitize disabilities. We are considering starting disable friendly bus in Kathmandu. Similarly, we are constructing three disabled friendly public toilets in Kathmandu,” said Sapkota.
